MTN NIGERIA – Enterprise Data Management ImplementationChallenge:
MTN Nigeria’s ever-growing network of data and voice user required a large operation of skilled resources across all customer-facing and back-office department. With over 8000 staff, MTN is one of the largest employers of labour in the country. This comes with a price of rising growth in data generation and storage. Lots of data is shared daily with total sizes running in 2 Petabytes. The organization was faced with the challenge of storing this great amount of data across heterogeneous sources especially with regulations requiring retention of certain types of data for a specified period of time.
Average yearly spend on storage and related services rose by 50% YoY running into millions of dollars. The current situation caused high storage cost as well as the inability to meet compliance and regulatory requirement of storing information.
Solution:
In the face of reducing budget allocation to IT and the need for investment in innovation-related expense, a solution that enables effective storage optimization and fulfil regulatory requirement was needed.
As a Veritas Platinum Partner, with a robust and client-centric engagement approach, which included a technical/Solution Definition Workshop, TigerLogic, was able to clearly propose a solution built on Veritas Information Governance Solution Capability (which includes Veritas Data Insights and Enterprise Vault).
The solution intelligently identifies, classifies, Index and archives data in line with organization requirement/policy. The Archived data is moved from the primary, more expensive storage to a secondary, cost-effective storage. The archived data is easily retrievable via a search from both outlook console or from a browser anywhere around the world. The solution works automatically and its transparent/seamless to the end-users.
The solution delivery also involved the migration of existing mail archives from EMC SourceOne to Veritas Enterprise Vault. The solution was designed was optimized to handle the high-volume process without disrupting business services.
